How do I export asset data?

Learn how to export asset data from the Assets page using either quick exports or legacy exports.

Updated this week

Exporting asset can be done from the Assets page. Select the export type that matches your needs - either a quick view export or a full legacy export for complete or large datasets.

Export types

You can export asset data directly from the Assets page in Trackunit Manager.

Click the arrow next to Export in the bottom-right corner to see the export options

  • Legacy export using Manager settings

  • Legacy export using UTC

  • Export (default)

Note: After selecting the export type, you have to wait for the export to complete before the file can be downloaded and saved.

Export (default): Quick export of your current view

Use the default export when you want a fast download of the data currently visible in your Asset list.

What it includes

  • Only the columns you have selected

  • Custom fields that are visible in your list

  • Any filters you applied

You can continue working in Manager while the file is generated.

💡 Tip: To customize your export, click the Customize columns button and toggle columns on or off before exporting.

Limitations

  • The default export is limited to 10,000 assets. If your filtered list exceeds this number, only the first 10,000 assets will be exported. Use a Legacy export for larger datasets.

  • The file is not stored on the server for long, so download it when it is ready

Legacy export: Full, high-capacity exports

Use the Legacy export for complete datasets or very large Asset lists.

Legacy export using Manager settings

  • Exports all assets and all available columns (whether they are toggled on or not)

  • Uses the timezone set in your Manager settings (Learn how to set your Manager timezone here)

  • Handles large datasets without slowing down or crashing the browser

Legacy export using UTC

  • Exports all assets and columns, but timestamps are converted to UTC

  • Ideal if your BI tools or integrations use UTC

Note: The Legacy export option will remain available until "Default export" supports the same level of robustness and flexibility.

Note: Legacy exports always include a fixed set of columns*, regardless of what you have filtered for in your Asset list. To export only specific columns, use the default export instead.

*Fixed columns: Attention, Name, Asset Type, Brand, Model, Year, Type, Telematics Device S.No, Serial Number (VIN), Metadata Score, External Reference, Activity, Total Hours, Street Address, City, Country, ZIP Code, Owner, Sites, Customers, Groups, Owning Depot, Owning Depot site id, Last Seen (+00:00 GMT), AssetId

How timezones affect exports

Different export types apply timezones differently.

Export type

Timezone in export file

Export (default)

  • Uses your current Manager timezone on the current view

  • Example: If Manager is set to Europe/Berlin (UTC+01:00), timestamps in the export appear in UTC+01:00

Legacy export using Manager settings

  • Uses the timezone set in your current Manager settings

Legacy export using UTC

  • Converts all timestamps to UTC

  • Useful when matching export data with asset logs or BI tools that rely on UTC

Choosing the right export type:

Export type:

Asset limit:

No limit

Columns included:

Ideal for:

When you just need the current list view or you are doing operational follow-up or ad-hoc analysis

When you need a full dataset beyond the visible columns, and you are exporting large fleets (incl. >100k assets)

When your systems depend on a consistent export format, or you require UTC-based timestamps (choose "Legacy export using UTC")
