If you have migrated from Access Control to Access Management, the way you lock and unlock assets has changed.
This article explains what has changed, how to configure your devices correctly, and how to troubleshoot common issues to prevent assets from becoming unintentionally locked or inaccessible.
Note: This guide applies to customers who have migrated from the legacy Access Control feature to Access Management.
For more content on Access Management, see here.
What changed?
The main difference is that asset access is now managed through Access Management in Trackunit Manager rather than manually through Output Mode in Verify
You will still need to use Verify to check that the migration has been set up correctly, but you will use Trackunit Manager and the Access Management app to lock/unlock assets.
Important configuration requirements
To ensure assets behave as expected after migrating to Access Management, there are three important configuration requirements to follow:
# | New Configuration Requirements |
| In Verify, IN2 --> OUT1 must always stay ON - this marks the device as migrated to Access Management. Do not turn it off. |
| *Relay Logic in Verify must match the physical relay mounting - NO (Normally Open) or NC (Normally Closed) on site must have the same settings in Verify. |
| Lock/unlock logic is set only in Trackunit Manager in the Access Mangement app. Never use Output Mode in Verify for locking and unlocking assets. |
*Note: NC relay installations: with the old lock/unlock feature, OUT1 status matched the physical signal on the relay. That is no longer true. The Relay Logic setting in Verify now handles the translation to your physical wiring.
The sections below explain how to check and configure these settings.
Verify settings:
These three settings appear in Verify. Only two of them should be configured, and only once time at the time of installation of a device:

Lock / Unlock via Trackunit Manager
Trackunit Manager is now the only place to control wether an asset can start or not.
From Trackunit Manager, go to the Access Management app, Find the asset under Assets, and click on it to open the Configuration bar:
Trackunit Manager Setting: | Meaning: | When to use: |
Locked for all | Asset will not start for anyone | Asset should be immobilized |
Unlocked for all | Asset can start for anyone | Open access on site |
Unlocked for key | Start only after keypad or mobile unlock | Controlled access per operator |
Locking an asset:
Trackunit Manager --> Access Management app --> Asset tab --> Select asset --> Configuration --> Select Unlocked for all or Unlocked for Key--> Save --> Always test on site.
Unlocking an asset:
Trackunit Manager --> Access Management app --> Asset tab --> Select asset --> Configuration --> Select Locked for all--> Save --> Always test on site.
The device reacts when a start is attempted. It is no longer an instant manual toggle via the Output Mode button in Verify.
Post-migration audit of assets
After migration, run this checklist on every asset which has already been migrated to Access Management:
# | Check | Expected | If wrong |
1 | Verify: IN2 --> OUT1 | ON | Turn ON immediately |
2 | Verify: Relay Logic | Matches physical NO/NC | Correct the toggle to match relay on site |
3 | Verify: Output Mode | Not used for lock/unlock | Ignore, use Trackunit Manager instead |
4 | Trackunit Manager: Access Management configuration | Matches your intent | Select the desired locking mode (locked, unlocked, unlocked for key) |
5 | On-site test | Asset behavior matches Trackunit Manager settings | If the opposite is happening recheck the Relay Logic match (check #2) |

Troubleshooting
Below are the most common issues that can arise if the new configuration is not followed:
Sympton | Likely cause | Fix | Avoid |
Asset is blocked and won't start | Access Management configuration is set "Locked for all" | Change the Access Management configuration in Trackunit Manager | Avoid using Verify to Lock/Unlock |
Asset blocked after migration | IN2 --> OUT1 is OFF | Go to Verify and set IN2 --> OUT1 to ON | Avoid turning IN2 --> OUT1 OFF |
Opposite asset behavior observed | Relay Logic in Verify does not match physical relay | Go to Verify and toggle the correct Relay Logic (NO or NC) |
|
Someone toggled Output Mode | Old lock/unlocking habbit | Use Trackunit Manager to lock/unlock assets. | Avoid using Output Mode in Verify to lock/unlock assets. |
Mixed settings from different users | No single source of truth | Run a full post migration audit | Avoid using the old method for locking/unlocking assets. |
Escalation: If all the steps have been completed and the behavior is still wrong, contact Trackunit Support with: asset ID, relay type (NO/NC), screenshot of Verify settings, and screenshot of Access Manager configuration in Trackunit Manager.
