Use Trackunit Manager to customize your Spot device’s transmission intervals to your needs.

Change transmission settings

Log into Trackunit Manager

  1. Navigate to the Asset page on the left side menu

  2. Find and click on the asset that you want to edit

  3. Navigate to the Telematics tab on the left side of Asset home

  4. Customize the data you receive from Spot by editing some or all of the following:

    • Wake up time:
The device wakes up at this hour to send data. From then on it will send data according to the chosen interval.

    • Transmission interval:
The device wakes up at regular intervals to send data. This interval is set to 24 hours by default. It can be configured to send data every 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, or 48 hours.

Note: A high frequency rate will impact the battery life.

    • Movement detection:
The device sends data when movement is detected through one of the following:

      1. Vibration detected by the accelerometer

      2. GPS speed of the device is 12 km/h (7 mph) or higher

      3. Device is woken by the accelerometer and the previous sleep period was less than 30 minutes

Once movement is detected, the device wakes up every hour to check if it is still moving. It sends location updates for up to 5 consecutive movements, then goes silent.

If the device comes to a stop, it sends one final location update.

Note: If you use the movement detection setting on equipment that moves around a lot like a trailer or forklift, it could use up the battery quickly.

    • High frequency tracking:
When this setting is switched on, the device will transmit data every 15 minutes for 4 hours, then it returns to the previous settings. This happens according to the chosen wake up time and transmission interval.

This setting can be useful for getting a location trail if you are in search of lost equipment.

    • Battery replaced:
When you replace the battery, you can reset the counters to return the estimated battery level to 100%.
