How do I order a new battery?

Contact your key account manager or customer success manager to place an order. The relevant part number for Spot is 220-00004.

How do I replace the battery?

Safety Statement

Intended use

The battery (TU part number 220-00004) is for the professional and instructed battery replacement in Spot 2.

Misuse

Do not install other battery types than TU 220-00004 in Spot 2. Do not solder a battery to the product.

Risk of fire/explosion

The battery is packed at the factory for safe transportation.

Only unpack the battery before the replacement.

Do not heat, puncture, or crush the battery due to risk of fire/explosion.

Installation

Install 4 screws with the correct torque (Nm) to ensure the IP rating of the enclosure. No modification to connector or battery is allowed.

Disposal

Only dispose the replaced battery through local collection scheme.

Battery Replacement Steps

  1. Remove the device: Detach the Spot from its mounting location by unfastening or removing it from the magnetic mounting bracket (if applicable).

  2. Unscrew the back panel: Use the TX10 screwdriver to remove the four M4 screws from the back panel.

  3. Open the housing: Separate the front and back panels. Some force might be required - be careful not to damage any components.

  4. Disconnect the old battery: Carefully remove the old battery and disconnect it from the JST connector (location displayed in the figure below) by gently pulling up on the wires.

  5. Dispose of the old battery: Follow local, state, or provincial laws and regulations for battery disposal.

  6. Install the new battery: Install the new Trackunit battery pack (P/N: 220-00004) by hand, inserting the JST connector on the new battery pack in the JST slot on the Spot within the enclosure.

  7. Check LED confirmation: The LEDs flash green and red for approximately two seconds to confirm the battery has been installed correctly.

  8. Reassemble the device: Align the back panel carefully, covering the battery, making sure no wires are pinched or pierced.

  9. Secure the screws: Insert four M4 screws into the screw holes on the back panel and tighten them using the TX10 (0.6 Nm) screwdriver. Avoid over-tightening.

Note: After replacing the battery, be sure to reset the battery counter in Trackunit Manager to update the device’s estimated lifespan.

  1. Log in to Trackunit Manager.

  2. Go to the Assets page at the top of the navigation bar on the left.

  3. Select the asset with the Spot battery that you replaced.

  4. In Asset home, click on the Telematics tab.

  5. In the Battery Status section, click on Reset counters to reset the values.

Your Spot battery is now successfully replaced and reset. The battery estimate will recalibrate to the new battery over the following weeks as the device reports.
