Add Wi-Fi Profiles to TU700 Devices in Verify

Learn how to configure and manage Wi-Fi network profiles for a TU700 device using the Verify tool.

Updated this week

Wi-Fi profiles allow your device to maintain reliable connectivity in environments where cellular coverage is limited or unavailable, such as indoor sites, underground locations, or large facilities.

Using Verify, you can securely configure and manage multiple Wi-Fi networks per device, making it easy to operate across different sites while keeping credentials protected.

Once Wi-Fi profiles have been configured on your device, connection to these networks will be prioritized over cellular connection. If none of the Wi-Fi profiles are available, your device will fall back to cellular connection.

Preconditions

Device ownership:

  • You must belong to the account that owns the asset to add, remove, or modify Wi-Fi profiles.

  • You must have visibility of the asset in Trackunit Manager to add, remove, or modify Wi-Fi profiles.

Network requirements

  • Devices must be in an area where cellular is available in order to receive a Wi-Fi profiles.

  • The following ports must be open on the access point:

    • 9490 – Required for exchanging packages between devices and the server

    • 53 – DNS

    • 21 – FTPS control channel

    • 8192–8200 – FTPS data channel

    • 9443 – HTTPS

Hardware requirements

How to access Wi-Fi Setup

  1. Open Verify

  2. Find your TU700 device by entering the device serial number in the search field

  3. Under “Unit Info", confirm the device is running on firmware 2.5.12 or later

  4. Scroll to the Actions section

  5. Here, you’ll see the option Wi-Fi Setup

Note: The Wi-Fi Setup button is only available for TU700 devices. If the button is not visible, the device does not support Wi-Fi configuration.

How to add a New Wi-Fi Profile

  1. Click on Wi-Fi Setup to open the configuration window

  2. Enter the SSID (required)

    • Important: The SSID must be the exact same name as the Wi-Fi network, including differences in upper/lower case. For example, “Office-WiFi”

  3. Select a security type (Optional)

Security Type

Description

When to Use

Automatic (Default)

Device auto-detects security

Recommended for most networks

WPA2 PSK

WPA2 with pre-shared key

Older enterprise networks

WPA3 PSK

Latest WPA3 security

Modern secure networks

WPA/WPA2 PSK

Mixed mode compatibility

Networks supporting both

Open (No Security)

No password required

Public/guest networks only

💡 Tip: Leave as "Automatic" unless you know the specific security type. The device will automatically detect the correct protocol.

4. Enter the Wi-Fi password

  • You can leave the Wi-Fi password empty for open networks. The password will be encrypted before transmission.

Note : Hidden SSID - Check this box if your network doesn't broadcast its SSID. Only check this box if you explicitly configured your router to hide the network name.

5. Click Add Profile

💡 Tip: You can add multiple profiles / networks after clicking Add Profile. They will all appear at the top of the window for you to review before clicking “Save changes”.

6. Click Save Changes

After successful confirmation, the device will receive the new configuration.

Understanding Wi-Fi Status Display

The Wi-Fi status section helps you quickly verify whether the device is connected, which network it is using, and the quality of the connection.

The Wi-Fi row shows:

  • green circle Full green bar: Excellent signal (≤ -50 dBm*)

  • green circle 3 green bars: Good signal (-51 to -60 dBm)

  • yellow circle 2 yellow bars: Fair signal (-61 to -70 dBm)

  • red circle 1 red bar: Poor signal (-71 to -80 dBm)

  • red circle 0 bars: Disconnected or very poor (< -80 dBm)

*Signal strength is shown as RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) measured in dBm (e.g., "-45 dBm").

When successfully connected to a Wi-Fi network, device LED will blink according to the pattern described in the installation guide

How to remove an existing Wi-Fi profile

When you open the Wi-Fi Setup, you’ll see existing Wi-Fi profiles at the top of the window.

  1. Click on the trash-can icon next to the Wi-Fi profile to mark the profile for removal (you can mark several profiles at once if needed).

  2. Click Save Changes to remove the marked Wi-Fi profile permanently.

    • Important: Once saved, removed Wi-Fi profiles cannot be recovered. You'll need to re-add them if needed.

💡 Tip: If you accidentally marked a Wi-Fi profile for removal, click “Undo” next to the marked Wi-Fi profile.

Troubleshooting Steps

Wi-Fi Profile Not Saving

Issue: Save button is disabled

Solutions:

  • Check that SSID field is not empty

  • Ensure at least one profile is added or marked for removal

  • Make sure you have the correct permissions (you must belong to the account that owns the asset and have visibility of the asset)

Device Not Connecting

Issue: Wi-Fi Profile saved but device won't connect

Check:

  1. SSID is correct - Must match the exact name of the Wi-Fi

  2. Password is correct - Re-enter password if you are unsure

  3. Security type matches - Try "Automatic" if a specific type fails

  4. Signal strength - Device must be within range of the Wi-Fi signal

  5. Hidden SSID - This box should only be checked if it matches router configuration

Save Button Shows "Saving..." Indefinitely

Issue: Save operation appears stuck

Solutions:

  1. Wait 30 seconds for network timeout

  2. If error message appears, try again

  3. Check your internet connection

  4. Refresh the page and retry

Best Practices

Security

check mark button DO:

  • Use WPA2 or WPA3 for secure networks

  • Use strong, unique passwords

  • Keep passwords confidential

  • Use "Automatic" security type when possible

cross mark DON'T:

  • Don't use "Open (No Security)" for sensitive data

  • Don't share Wi-Fi passwords in public channels

  • Don't reuse passwords across networks

Profile Management

check mark button DO:

  • Remove old/unused profiles to reduce confusion

  • Test connection after adding profiles

  • Document which devices use which networks

  • Keep network names descriptive

cross mark DON'T:

  • Don't add duplicate profiles for the same network

  • Don't leave test profiles on production devices

  • Don't configure profiles for networks out of device range

Maintenance

check mark button DO:

  • Review profiles quarterly and remove obsolete networks

  • Update passwords when network credentials change

  • Check Wi-Fi status row regularly

  • Document changes: note which profiles are for which locations

FAQ

How many Wi-Fi profiles can I configure per device?

Maximum 10 Wi-Fi profiles per device. If 10 Wi-Fi profiles have been configured for the device, new attempts to add profiles will fail until sufficient old profiles have been removed.

Can I prioritize which network to connect to?

No. Priority is determined by signal strength and availability. The device will connect to the strongest available network from your configured profiles.

What happens if I entered the wrong password?

The device won't be able to connect. Check the Wi-Fi status row - if it shows "Disconnected," re-open Wi-Fi Setup and correct the password.

Can I configure Wi-Fi for multiple devices at once?

Not through Verify, but you can through APIs.

Why can't I see the Wi-Fi Setup button?

The feature is only available for TU700 devices.

How does the device switch between Wi-Fi and cellular?

The device automatically selects the best available connection. If Wi-Fi is unavailable or unstable, it falls back to cellular to maintain data reporting

Will removing a profile disconnect the device immediately?

Yes, if the device is currently connected to a profile you remove, it will disconnect after the change is saved. If another Wi-Fi profile is set up, the device will attempt to connect to that profile.
