When finding the serial number of your Trackunit device, be careful not to confuse it with the VIN of your asset. Using the wrong one is the most common reason a device lookup fails or returns no results.
Trackunit Device Serial Number (ESN) vs. VIN
The Trackunit device serial number, also called an ESN (Electronic Serial Number), is the identifier for the telematics device itself. This is different from the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) or chassis number printed on the asset the device is installed on.
Identifier | What it identifies |
Device Serial Number (ESN) | The telematics device |
VIN / chassis number | The asset the device is installed on |
When contacting Trackunit Support or making API requests, always use the Device Serial Number (ESN), not the VIN. VINs and chassis numbers are not recognized by Trackunit's lookup systems.

You can find the device serial number both in Trackunit Manager and on the device itself.
