IrisX MCP lets you ask questions about your fleet and work with your Trackunit data using natural language in your connected AI tool.
You don’t need to learn specific commands. Simply describe what you want to know or do. Use the examples below to get started, then adapt them to your own fleet, sites, and workflows.
How does it work?
Who/What | Role |
You | Ask in plain language, in Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot. |
Your AI tool | Works out what you are asking for and which IrisX tools it needs. |
IrisX MCP | Runs governed queries and actions against Trackunit Manager and IrisX Analytics — within your permissions. |
Your fleet | Assets, sites, customers, operators, alerts, services, inspections, and telematics devices. |
Before you start
You need an active IrisX subscription, access to your IrisX account, and one of the
supported AI tools: Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot.

What can I ask?
If it is your first time calling the MCP after you have connected it, start with a simple prompt to check that the connecting is working.
Use this prompt for testing:
› How many assets are currently in my fleet?
You should get an asset count and a short fleet or activity summary.
If the prompt was successful, you can move on to a question or task you would normally use Trackunit Manager to complete. In this article, we'll go through the 4 main areas that are a good place to start when you first start using the MCP.
Fleet
When you want to know where your assets are, what they are doing, and who is using them.
Starting prompt | Go deeper |
› What is the status of [site name] right now? | › Who currently has access to machines at [depot name]? |
› Which assets are underutilised this week? | › Show me utilisation by asset type for last month, and tell me which site each asset is on |
› Which assets have an upcoming service? | › Which assets have not moved in the last 14 days? |
💡 Tip:
When: Specify a time period, such as last week, the last 30 days, or since 1 June.
Where or what: Name the site, depot, asset, or other scope you’re interested in.
Faulty Codes
When you want to find, understand and clear faulty codes.
Starting prompt | Go deeper |
› Are there any active faults on my fleet right now? | › Which assets have both an active fault and an upcoming service? |
› Explain the active faults on [asset name] in plain language, and tell me how serious each one is. | › Group the active faults across my fleet by site, so I can see where the problems cluster. |
› Which of my active faults would stop an asset from working today? | › Dismiss the open events on [asset name] - they have been resolved. |
💡 Tip: What a good exchange looks like
› Which assets are underutilised this week and also have an active fault?
You get back the assets that match, where each one is, how long it has been idle, what the fault actually means, and a link into Trackunit Manager for each.
› Of those, which are on sites in Denmark?
It keeps the previous answer in mind. You do not have to ask again from the start.
If a result looks surprising, ask how it was calculated and use the Trackunit Manager links to review the underlying information.
Alerts
When you want to use the MCP to speed up the creation of alerts. For this, the MCP can take actual action in Trackunit Manager.
Starting prompt | Action - changes your configuration |
› Which alerts are currently configured across my fleet? | › Create a theft alert for all assets at [site name] |
› Which assets have open events right now, and what triggered them? | › Dismiss the open asset events at [site name] so the list is clean |
Important - actions can change your Trackunit data
Actions take effect immediately and cannot be undone through IrisX MCP. If you need to reverse a change, go to the relevant section in Trackunit Manager.
Be specific about the scope of an action. For example, “all assets at Depot North” is more precise than “all my assets.”
For larger changes, you can also ask your AI tool to confirm what it is about to do before you approve the action
Automation
When you want to take the MCP to the next level and save real hours.
Recurring | Working with your data | Follow-on work |
› Send me a weekly compliance report every Friday. | › Create a theft alert for all assets at [depot] and notify me if any asset leaves the site | › Take the underutilised assets you just listed and draft a transfer recommendation for each one. |
› Every Monday, summarise last week's utilisation by site in one page. | › Update the billing reference for all assets at [site] to [value]. | › Put that into a table I can paste into a spreadsheet. |
| › Give [name] a site key for [depot] - they start Monday. | › Write a short summary of this month's fleet performance for my operations manager, no jargon. |
Beyond the four examples
Once you a comfortable with the basics above, you can take it to the next level with an additional four capability groups:
Capability | What to ask |
IrisX Analytics | Ask questions of your analytics data through Genie spaces, or run read-only SQL.
The Genie spaces available to you are exposed automatically based on your accountpermissions.
|
Asset Data Management | Update asset details, custom fields, and sustainability recommendations without opening Trackunit Manager
|
Customers | Create customers with contact information, address, parent customer, and external reference.
|
Access Management and Operators | Access management and operators Create operators with an SMS invitation to join your account, and grant them access to sites.
|
Best practices for better prompts
No matter what you are asking your AI tool, there are a couple of best practices that will always give you a better result.
Do | Example |
Name the time period | “Last week”, “since 1 June”, “the last 30 days” - be explicit and the numbers stay comparable between asks.
|
Name the site, depot, or asset | Especially before an action. The narrower the scope you state, the smaller the surprise.
|
Follow up rather than restart | Your AI tool remembers the last answer. “Now show only the ones in Denmark” is faster than asking again from scratch.
|
Ask for the working | If a figure matters, ask how it was calculated and which assets it covers. Then open the Trackunit Manager link and check.
|
Specify what the answer is for | "For a customer email”, “for my service planner”, “as a table” - the format follows the purpose.

Good to know
Keep these things in mind before your rely on the AI answer:
Actions are immediate and cannot be undone through the MCP. Creating an alert, updating a field, or issuing a site key takes effect straight away. To reverse something, go to the relevant section in Trackunit Manager.
You see only your own account, Access follows your existing IrisX permissions. Connecting the MCP does not widen what you can see or change.
Some answers take a few seconds. A complex prompt may call several IrisX tools before it can answer. Five to fifteen seconds is normal, not a fault.
Check numbers before big decisions. An ambiguous question can produce a confident answer to a slightly different question. Use the Trackinit Manager links to verify anything consequential.
Keep personal and customer data out of anything you share. Answers can contain site names, customer references, and operator detail. Treat exports the way you would treat a report from Trackunit Manager.
Troubleshooting
The four most common errors and how to remedy them:
Connected, but I get no data: check that you authenticated with the correct IrisX account.
I get an authorisation error: disconnect and reconnect the Trackunit IrisX connector in your AI tool settings, then re-authenticate with your IrisX credentials.
My AI tool responds slowly: expected for some requests. Complex prompts can take five to fifteen seconds while several IrisX tools are called.
An action had unexpected results: actions cannot be undone through the MCP. Go to the relevant section in Trackunit Manager to reverse it.
