Why can't I retrieve the IMEI for my Trackunit device?

Learn why IMEI codes are not available via the Trackunit API or support, and what to do if you need IMEI data for compliance or Industry 4.0 reports.

Many customers request IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) codes for their Trackunit devices - most commonly for Industry 4.0 compliance reports or external integrations. This article explains why IMEI is not currently available through standard Trackunit channels and what your options are.

Why IMEI is not available via the Trackunit API

The Trackunit device identity API endpoint returns core device information such as serial number (ESN), device model, activation date, and account ID. IMEI is not included in the response payload for TU700 and most other Trackunit devices.

This means that even if you query the API using a valid serial number, the IMEI field will not be returned, it is not a data gap or authentication issue, but a current limitation of what the device identity endpoint exposes.

What you can do

If you need IMEI data for a specific device or fleet, contact Trackunit Support directly and include:

  • The reason for the request (e.g. Industry 4.0 report, compliance, third-party integration)

  • The account name or account number

Trackunit's support team can investigate availability of IMEI data on a case-by-case basis depending on device model and provisioning details.
