How do I manage canvases for my users in the Home page?

Create and manage Home canvases to customize the Home page in Trackunit Manager with widgets that are tailored to each role or team.

Updated this week

Canvases let you customize your Trackunit Manager Home page with widgets tailored to your role or team. This guide explains how to create, publish, and assign the canvases to the relevant team, so everyone sees the insights they need right away.

Creating and managing canvases to be assigned to specific user roles is currently only available to Admin users.

Other users roles will either see the canvas assigned to their role or the default canvas when logging in.

What is a Home canvas?

A Home canvas is your customizable Home page in Trackunit Manager. It is made up of individual widgets that display key data such as emissions, service insights, or site health.

  • Admins can create role-specific canvases (e.g., Technician, Fleet Manager). Users assigned to those roles will see the relevant canvas on their Home page each time they log in.

  • Admins and Fleet Admins can create their own personal canvases, selecting widgets, arranging them on the grid, and setting default filters. Learn how to create a personal canvas

Default Trackunit Home canvas

If no custom canvas has been created yet, you and your users see the default Trackunit Home canvas the first time you log in.

This preconfigured layout includes widgets chosen to match common user roles, such as Fleet Admins or Technicians.

  • The default Home canvas only appears if:

    • No admin-assigned Home canvas exists for your account

    • You haven’t created a personal Home canvas

  • It is view-only and automatically disappears once a custom Home canvas (admin-assigned or personal) is active

Home administration

Admins manage Home canvases from Administration → Home Canvases. The overview table lists all existing Home canvases, showing details such as:

  • Name: Canvas title

  • Status: Draft or Published

  • Assigned To: User role (e.g., Fleet admin, Technician)

  • Last Edited: Date and time of most recent change

  • Created By: Creator's email

  • Actions: Edit, rename, publish, or delete

💡 Tip: Use clear, role-specific names like "Technician Home" or "Fleet Manager Default" to avoid confusion later.

Creating a new Home canvas

  1. As an admin, you can create a new Home canvas by clicking Create canvas.

  2. Give the Home canvas a name in the pop up window (up to 80 characters). Click Create to continue.

Note: If saving fails, you’ll see an error message explaining the issue.

Adding widgets to the canvas

  1. In the top right corner of the canvas, click on Add Widget

  2. In the widget drawer (right side), you can:

    • Filter the list

    • Search by keyword

    • Scroll through all available widgets

  3. Click on a widget to add it

  4. Drag & drop widgets to arrange the layout

  5. Use the filter icon (top right of each widget) to customize its view

Publishing and assigning a Home canvas

When you are ready to publish a Home canvas:

  1. Click Publish in the bottom-right corner

  2. In the Publish & assign window, select which roles should have access

After publishing:

  • Status changes to Published (shown in the Home canvases table and in edit mode)

  • Assigned users see the Home canvas automatically at their next login

  • A confirmation message appears for the admin

Note: Only users with the user roles you assign to the canvas will have access to the canvas. If you later make changes, you have to publish the canvas again for users to see the updates.

Managing existing Home canvases

As an admin, to manage an existing Home canvas, open the three-dot menu next to the canvas’ name.

💡 Tip: You can also click directly on a row in the Home Canvases table to open it in edit mode.

Depending on the Status being "Draft" or "Published" you can then:

  • Edit widgets

  • Rename the canvas

  • Publish canvas or update assigned roles

  • Revert to draft (removing role assignments)

  • Delete permanently

💡 Tip: Follow these best practices to get the most out of Home canvases:

  • Define what each role needs before creating layouts

  • Use draft mode to experiment before publishing

  • Keep layouts simple and avoid too many widgets

  • Apply clear naming logic so it’s obvious which Home canvas supports which role or function
