How do I add metadata to assets in Trackunit Manager?

Use Additional Standard and Custom Fields to add metadata and keep your assets structured and easy to manage.

Updated this week

The Additional Standard Fields as well as your own Custom Fields will enable you to capture and organize additional metadata that holds significant contextual value, thereby facilitating more robust data categorization and retrieval processes for you and your end-customers.

Creating your own Custom Fields is only available for customers with IrisX subscription. Speak with your Trackunit representative to learn more about the IrisX subscription, or click here

There are two types of fields:

  • Additional Standard Fields: Trackunit provides a number of additional standard fields for common metadata, that can be used by all customers to extend the available data model for any asset, where applicable.

  • Own Custom Fields: Custom fields provide a way to define new fields in the Trackunit data model in order to extend and customize Trackunit Manager. Currently we support extending the data model of assets, accounts, groups, sites, customers and rental contracts with new fields.

Note: Creating your own Custom Fields is available via API access only. Read more about creating your own Custom Fields on our Developer Hub, or reach out to your Trackunit representative to learn how to get started.

Adding & Editing Fields

  1. Go to the Asset page in the upper left of the navigation bar, and click on the asset of your interest.

  2. Choose Specification in the left-hand navigation of the Asset home.

  3. Click the Edit button which will bring up another button for Manage Custom Fields which you can also click on.

  4. A list of fields will be available for you to choose from. Select the fields that you are interested in and click Save.

  5. Depending on the field you have added, you will have multiple options such as a dropdown list of pre-filled values, free text, date and more.

  6. Fill in the right value and click Save.

Filter Using Fields

One of the most useful things to leverage fields for is custom filtering and sorting of your assets in Trackunit Manager.

  1. Go to the Asset page in the upper left of the navigation bar.

  2. Click on the Filter icon on the top left of the asset table.

  3. Scroll to the bottom to see the list of fields available for you to filter through.

  4. Select the field with your desired values to filter the asset table by that data point.

  5. You can also add each field as a column to the table by clicking on Columns and selecting the fields you want to see.
