Verify a S300 installation with the Trackunit Fit mobile app

Get started with the Trackunit Fit mobile app to validate installations of S300 IoT telematics devices.

The Trackunit Fit mobile app helps installers verify that a Trackunit device is installed correctly before leaving the installation job. This article is for verifying a S300 device. For TU600/700 see here

The app guides you through the installation process, confirms that the device has activated, and shows how the device is performing in its environment during the 10-minute activation window.

By completing this verification, you ensure the device is ready to deliver reliable data from day one.

Note: There are two different Trackunit Fit apps. This article is about the Trackunit Fit app (blue icon) for self-install.

Trackunit Fit (Field) app is for Trackunit-contracted technicians.

  • Bluetooth® is enabled and your camera is working

  • The asset and device are accessible

  • You have a Trackunit Manager account with access to the device

After verification, device health can be monitored in Trackunit Manager.

Describe and your asset

You’ll now complete the asset form. This enables validation.

1. Asset Metadata

Enter details about the asset.

  • Fields may be pre-filled if the asset already exists

  • Fill in as many fields as possible

  • Use:

    • Camera icon to scan text

    • Template icon for predefined values

This step ensures the asset is correctly registered.

Configure the device

This step will set the conditions under which the S300 will communicate.

  • Wake Up Time sets the time of day the S300 will wake up

  • Transmission Interval sets how often the device will wake up to send its location

  • Movement Detection will start a transmission cycle whenever movement is detected

  • High Frequency Tracking increases the transmission interval to every 15 minutes for 4 hours. Turns off automatically after 4 hours

Note: Movement detection and high frequency tracking are both optional settings. Toggling them on can impact battery longevity.

Install the S300 and activate

The next two screens will walk you through installing the S300 on an asset and activating it. Activating will cause the device to attempt communications with Trackunit Manager and the Fit app.

Shortly after you peel the sticker off the S300, a 10 minute countdown will show in-app, indicating how long is left until the device goes to sleep and stops communicating.

Review device details

On Install Home, review Device details to confirm the device is connected and reporting data.

Key metrics:

  • GPS signal quality

  • Number of GPS satellite signals

  • Mobile signal strength

  • Bluetooth® connection

  • Last GNSS fix

You’ll also see:

  • Last Bluetooth® Data – last time the app received data through Bluetooth®

This field shows a red warning indicator to alert you if data has not been received for an extended time.

Device information and configuration

Tap the Device details box to see a more detailed view of your device.

This screen displays information about your device, such as:

  • The Trackunit serial number

  • The device type

  • The device’s firmware version

Below the information is a configuration form, similar to the one you saw earlier in the process.

Run certification checks

From Install Home, tap Certification.

Certification checks run automatically and confirm your installation meets requirements.

Each check passes when:

  • Metadata – Required fields are complete

  • Connection – Requires that the device has made a Bluetooth® or cellular connection

You can bypass a check if needed.

When bypassing a check, you must provide a reason (either written or selected from a list).

  • Bypassed checks are marked with a yellow indicator

  • They remain part of the certification record

Add installation images (optional)

Next, document the installation.

  1. Tap Installation Images

  2. Add photos by:

    • Taking a new photo, or

    • Selecting from your gallery

These images:

  • Show the condition of the asset at certification

  • Are available in Trackunit Manager for troubleshooting

Neither of the listed images are required, but we recommend adding them for better documentation.

..

Complete the installation verification

Once you have:

  • Completed certification

  • Added installation images (optional)

Tap Complete.

The device is now verified and ready for operation.

Monitor Device Health

After verification, you can monitor the device in Device Health in Trackunit Manager
