Execute Remote Commands for TU700 and M7 devices

Learn how to execute remote commands for assets equipped with a TU700 or a M7 device. The OEM or rental configures the commands, you execute them.

Use the Remote Commands feature in Trackunit Manager to send parameter changes to assets remotely.

Instead of travelling to the asset, you can execute commands directly from Trackunit Manager using a desktop browser or mobile device.

Available commands are configured by your equipment manufacturer (OEM) or rental company and may include actions such as:

  • starting or stopping a pump

  • adjusting engine speed

  • changing auxiliary pressure

The command is delivered through the TU700/M7 installed on the asset.

Access: Remote Commands is currently only available to early adopters. Contact your Trackunit Representatives for more details.

M7 devices: M7 devices have limited Remote Command capabilities compared to TU700 devices. See the bottom of this article for details and a list of limitations

Before you begin

To execute remote commands:

  • your OEM or rental company must configure and assign commands to your assets

  • the device must be online to receive commands immediately

If you cannot see expected commands, contact your OEM, rental company, or Trackunit representative.

Understand command roles

Remote Commands uses two roles:

Role

Responsibility

Command Creator

Configures and assigns commands to assets (OEM or rental company) using the Remote Commands Configuration app.

Command User

Executes commands on assigned assets.

As a Command User, you can execute commands but cannot create or modify them.

This article explains how a Command User executes commands assigned to assets by the Command Creator.

Select the asset

  1. Sign in to Trackunit Manager

  2. Go to the Assets page from the left-side navigation bar

  3. Find the asset, and click on the asset from the list

  4. From the asset home, click the Remote Commands tab

The Overview tab shows all the remote commands that are available for the asset

The Activity tab shows the remote command execution history for the asset

Each available remote command can be executed repeatedly as long as the asset owner has the command enabled for the asset.

Check device connectivity

Before executing a command, confirm the device is online and the asset state.

The device communication indicator in the top-right corner shows the latest device communication status.

Status

Meaning

Green

Asset communicated within the last 2 minutes

Amber

Asset communication may be delayed

No data

Asset is offline or communication is unavailable

If the device is offline, commands will be queued until connectivity returns. To troubleshoot connectivity issues, use the Device Health app in Trackunit Manager, or reach out to Customer Support for help

Click on View Status to check both the device connectivity and asset state to make sure the asset is ready to receive commands.

Understand preconditions

Some commands include safety preconditions that are configured by the Command Creator.

These help verify that the asset is in the correct state before the command executes.

If data is unavailable or outdated:

  • refresh the page

  • verify device connectivity

  • retry later if needed

You will see the preconditions required when you execute the command.

Execute a command

  1. Click a command to open the control panel in the right side

  2. Review:

    • command name and description

    • current value

    • any configured preconditions

  3. Enter the new value you want to send

  4. Click Send Command

  5. Confirm the execution

Important safety information

Commands take effect immediately and cannot be undone. If you are unsure what a command does or what a value means, contact the Command Creator before proceeding.

All command executions are logged in the Activity tab.

Understand execution statuses

After the command has been sent, the command moves through several stages before reaching the device. You can always keep an eye on the execution status in the Overview tab.

A failed status (a status marked in red) means the command could not be completed.

Common causes include:

  • failed preconditions

  • asset connectivity issues

  • asset communication problems

  • expired or timed out commands

You can try to resend the command after checking any outstanding precondition and connectivity. If failures persist, contact the Command Creator.

What is different on M7 devices?

The table below summarises which remote command features are available on M7 devices compared to TU700 devices.

Troubleshooting

Commands stay pending or fail

Check:

  • device connectivity

  • that preconditions are met

  • asset state

If the issue persists, contact the Command Creator.
